The roots have been broken,
The trunk ground to mulch,
and the boughs are burning in thankless fires

I stand on the cliff hearing nothing
But the moan of the broken earth groaning
Rattling against forgotten promises
Of the stewards, shattered so long ago
And placed in a shallow grave
Shattered with the coming of the blood red tide
and the rising of the carnelian moon

So we drink this fetid nectar
And dream of the life that still might cling here
Still a somber recollection of the death we gift upon the land
To compensate for cultural deficiencies denied
